At 12 years old I began learning how to sew my own clothes. Initially it was out of necessity, a way for me to supplement my wardrobe, but it soon became a way for me to express my creativity. I considered a career in fashion design and, as a back-up plan, becoming a history teacher but I felt called to work with and help children and families in need. I continued to make clothes and other items, such as, curtains, pillows, purses...
In 2005, my quilting journey began when I was asked to join a quilting class and I began learning the techniques of an age old art form.
In 2014, I became a member of the San Diego People of Color Quilt Guild and I am currently the Guild President. Guild members educated, inspired and taught me about and how to express my African and African American heritage from the present back to the African Continent. A Guild goal is to keep the tradition of African American quilting alive while continuing to evolve by learning new skills and techniques.
In 2021, I became a member of the Visions Museum of Textile Art. I have exhibited at the Museum and I am currently a member of their Education Committee. The Committee provides artistic educational opportunities and mentorship for children and teens throughout San Diego County.
In 2023, in an effort to enhance my knowledge and skills of art quilting, I joined the Quilts on the Wall Guild, a group of textile artist experts who specialize in art quilting. As a member of this Guild I have exhibited locally, statewide and nationally.
In 2025, I was invited to join the African American Writers and Artists group. This group was established in 1980 and I am thrilled that they have chosen to recognize quilting as an art form. Being a member of AAW&A has given me additional opportunities and encouragement to create, exhibit and to sell my creations.
I have participated and I am currently participating in International, National, State and local challenges and exhibits. Grossmont Community College has one of my Underground Railroad blocks on permanent exhibit and the County of San Diego's Southeast Live Well Center has one of my art quilts on permanent exhibit. In 2024, I had an art quilt published in the Art Quilting Studio Magazine and the Lift the Sky book, an international project to encourage worldwide positivity.
History fascinates me. Some of my goals are to continue to learn more about quilting history , to share this knowledge with others and to continue to be involved in the ever expanding world of quilting while enjoying the process.

All quilts are created using hand stitching and sewing machines.
