    ABOUT THE CREATOR

At twelve years old I began sewing my school clothes, initially to supplement my wardrobe, but it developed into a way of expressing my creativity. I considered a career in fashion and design but felt called to work with and to help children; however, I continued to sew on a limited basis.  In 2005, I was in a fabric store and saw one of my friends, Constance Carmichael Robinson, who invited me to join a quilting class that she was teaching. I was doubtful about my ability to learn this craft but she stated “ If you can sew, you can quilt” And with that she opened a whole new world of ever evolving creativity and friendships! Ms Robinson is no longer with us but I know that she would be proud and thrilled to know that, not only have I continued to use what she taught but have continued to grow. I joined a quilt guild and became President. So far I have been a finalist twice in an International Show (still hoping for that win! :), have had quilts exhibited in the National Quilt Museum in Kentucky, Washington, DC, Charleston, South Carolina and San Diego CA  My focus has always been on African and/or African American design, history, religious inspired and quirky/humorous. I enjoy naming my quilts and attach a beautifully decorated label with the name of the quilt to the front or back  Quilting is a never ending learning process, a creative way to continue a tradition passed down from our ancestors and it allows me the opportunity to leave a legacy.  I hope you enjoy viewing my creations as much as I have enjoyed creating them. Thank you!
